After his acquittal in the Niklas Pöhler case, Walid S. verifiably became violent. In December 2017, the 23-year-old hit a man outside a nightclub in Hennef. Now he was sentenced to a fine by the district court in Siegburg for causing bodily harm.

As the spokesperson of the court Christoph Turnwald, explained on Tuesday, the following happened according to the judgement of his colleague on  December 19, 2017: During the night in question the 23-year-old Bonn man was at

a disco in Hennef, smoking outside the door at around 4.30am amongst a group of other people. Suddenly Walid S. pushed a man and warned him: He had better get away, he was standing too close to his girlfriend.

The man replied, according to the court’s statement: He was standing perfectly where he was and was not considering stepping away. Then Walid S. hit him with his fist, socking him on the jaw. A dispute pursued which was only ended because a witness separated the opponents.

During the trial on September 24 Walid S. denied vehemently that he was the one hitting out first, according to the press spokesperson. He admitted that he was in the nightclub and also that there was some wrangling and violence. But he did not hit anybody, he said, he had nothing to with all this.

The court had no doubt though after hearing the victim and two further witnesses that the 23-year-old was the one who hit the other man. Particularly the statement of the victim convinced the court: The man recognised Walid S.

Case at the appeals chamber of the district court in Bonn

As Turnwald explained, the public prosecutor had proposed four months in jail on probation for Walid S., defending counsel Martin Kretschmer had demanded acquittal.

Because prosecution and the lawyer did not agree with the sentence, both lodged an appeal, so the case needs to be reopened at the appeals chamber of the district court in Bonn.

In Bonn, Walid S. is still in the focus of the prosecutors: The Bonn public prosecution is investigating against him and four other people for the suspicion of jointly causing grievous bodily harm. They are suspected to have beaten up a 23-year-old on October 14, 2017 on the Kurfürstenallee in Bad Godesberg so severely that he had to be brought to a hospital. His nose was broken in several places.

Also in this case, Walid S. denies all complicity, his lawyer said in a conversation with the GA newspaper. It is not clear why the investigation is still ongoing after a year.
